This section will provide you with an overview of Project Goals

The project goal is a single statement describing what is to be achieved by the project’s implementation and/or what role the project will play in addressing the current community condition. It can describe a reduction or resolution of a negative condition, or it can describe an expanded capacity to successfully address the current community condition. There are 16 videos in this series, and we urge you to take all in sequence. This is video five of pre-application training, Project Framework, and we're going to discuss the project goal. Your project goal needs to clearly demonstrate that the project goal specifically relates to the purpose of the FOA that you're applying to, as described in section one, program description, SEDS program purpose. You can get up to two points for this section of the application. Your project goal statement should be one sentence in length. It should reduce, improve, or eliminate your current community condition. And it needs to be identified by your community, and be realistic. An example of a project goal as stated by the Pine Creek tribe is to reduce fresh produce costs to the community by implementing farming innovations. You can go to page 38 of the manual to read more about project goal. To address this element, you should align your project with at least one program purpose priority stated in section one of your FOA. You should clearly describe the relationship between the project goal and the chosen program purpose. In SEDS, you would discuss social development, economic development, or governance. For ERE, it's regulate environmental quality, and for language, it would be language preservation, teacher certification, or language nests or survival schools. For the Pine Creek tribe, they're describing how their project goal relates to the purpose of the SEDS FOA. And specifically, they're discussing social and economic development. They're stating that their project will address economic development by improving farming techniques to expand the types of crops grown by local farmers. And additionally, it will address social development by providing a service to improve health and wellbeing of their community members by providing fresh produce at a reduced cost. Go to page 40 of the manual to see an activity to create your project goal. Write your project goal statement in one sentence, and then discuss how it addresses your current community condition. that you stated earlier, and describe how your project goal relates to the purpose of the SEDS FOA, or language FOA or ERE FOA, depending on what you're writing.
